The Mechanical, Materials, and Aerospace Engineering (MMAE) Department at IIT offers great programs in all three areas of Mechanical, Materials, and Aerospace Engineering. Our three bachelor’s degree programs expose you to an interdisciplinary context, which is ideal for industrial production and research enterprises. By weaving design and communications throughout our curriculum, we have created a culture of excellence that has resulted in several of our alumni becoming members of the National Academy of Engineering—one of the highest professional honors an engineer can receive. Our students often choose to deepen their interests in engineering through robotics, fluid dynamics, design, materials science, green energy, transportation, biomechanics, and space systems.
We continually update and improve our curriculum to provide an even better education for our students. It is our top priority to attract outstanding students to the MMAE undergraduate and graduate programs; to accomplish this we offer competitive financial packages (e.g. research and teaching assistantships for graduate students, and scholarships for undergraduate students) to highly qualified students. Qualified students are recommended to apply to our programs and take advantage of such opportunities.
The MMAE Department is very active in research. Currently, there are two research centers in the department, the Fluid Dynamics Research Center and the Thermal Processing Technology Center. The department also has several state-of-the-art laboratories in various research fields. We value collaborations with industry and encourage industry professionals to take advantage of our faculty expertise and research facilities.
