Armour College of Engineering undergraduate student, Svetlana Taylor (CHE 5th Year), was awarded first place poster presentation at the 2017 Illinois Section American Water Works Annual Conference and Expo, WATERCON. Her project, Designing and Modeling First- Flash Diverter for Rainwater Collection Using Superabsorbent Polymer Beads, detailed her efforts to develop a device that prevents the initial roof runoff from entering rainwater collection systems.

Six Armour College of Engineering Alumni were announced among the winners of the 2017 Illinois Institute of Technology Alumni Awards. Overall twelve Illinois Tech Alumni and one civic leader were named recipients of awards. The tradition of awarding alumni who have shown dedication to the university through service and support or to their field through hard work and outstanding contributions began in 1946.

Professor of Chemical Engineering, Satish Parulekar, was named the recipient of the 2016 Ernest W. Thiele Award from the Chicago Section of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). He is cited as receiving the award for his “leadership in promoting basic research and advanced exploratory developments in multi-disciplinary fields of materials science and engineering and promoting technological innovation for commercial sector and for national security.”
