Illinois Tech Leads $11.8 Million Grant to Test System That Might Restore Vision for People Who Have Lost Their Sight

Troyk, Associate Dean of Armour College of Engineering and Professor of Biomedical Engineering, was featured in a WTTW article about a National Institutes of Health grant that was awarded to Illinois Institute of Technology to test an intra-cortical visual prosthesis (ICVP) system. Dr. Troyk is the pricipal investigator on the grant that Illinois Tech leads with six partner institutions.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has awarded a grant to Illinois Institute of Technology to test an intra-cortical visual prosthesis (ICVP) system. Philip R. Troyk, Associate Dean of Armour College of Engineering and Professor of Biomedical Engineering, is the principal investigator of the grant totaling $11.8 million over five years with $3 million awarded for the first year. Illinois Institute of Technology leads on the project that has been developed with six partner institutions.

Eric Brey, Duchossois Leadership Professor and Professor of Biomedical Engineering, and Mark Anastasio, Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis, have been awarded a $2.5 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The funding will expand the team’s efforts to develop better imaging approaches for application to the fields of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.
