Chemical Engineering (B.S.)/Biological Engineering (M.A.S.)

Illinois Tech’s Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering/Master of Biological Engineering accelerated master's degree program allows students the opportunity to pursue advanced studies in biological engineering while completing both degrees in as few as five years.

In recognition of the chemical engineering profession becoming more prominently involved in biotechnology and biological engineering, the department has redesigned its undergraduate curriculum to ensure that graduates will possess additional knowledge and skills in biology and biological engineering as predicated by the changing needs of the industry.

Students will build a basic foundation in chemical engineering during the undergraduate portion of this program, which will prepare them for more advanced biological engineering work in the fourth year.

Students applying to the accelerated master’s program must have completed at least 60 credit hours with at least one full semester (12 credit hours) of applicable undergraduate study at the university.

Students must be at least one full semester (12 credit hours) away from undergraduate degree completion in order to apply.

Applicants are required to have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; however, please consult individual departments for specific minimum GPA requirements.
