The Student Chapter of American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) at Illinois Tech has received a Letter of Honorable Mention from the national organization. This is recognition received by only the top third of all Student Organizations based on outstanding activities as recorded in the 2016 Chapter annual report.

Illinois Tech was well represented at the 2017 Great Lakes Student Conference by 30 ASCE-IIT students. The event was held at the Milwaukee School of Engineering from March 31st- April 2nd. Our students competed in 8 competitions against 18 other universities. The results follow:

Overall Rank: 9th place

Mehdi Modares, Associate Professor in the Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering Department has been appointed as Associate Editor of American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Practice Periodical on Structural Design and Construction. This Practice Periodical publishes articles about practical solutions to structural design problems and construction challenges of interest to practitioners.

As many Armour College of Engineering students were studying for finals, the student chapter of American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Steel Bridge team had the added task of preparing for the ASCE National Student Bridge Competition, held at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah from May 27 - 28.

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Great Lakes Student Conference was held on Illinois Institute of Technology’s Main Campus from April 14 - 16. Illinois Tech’s ASCE Chapter not only hosted the Conference, but competed in the contests as well. The Steel Bridge Team took 2nd place overall, earning the opportunity to compete in the National competition to be held at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah from May 27 - 28. Other successes included ASCE chapter member, Khadijah Nesbitt’s (ARCE, 3rd year) third place win in the Technical Paper contest.

Having access to clean water is one of the most important problems facing the world today. Three female engineering students have recently been awarded scholarships to help solve this problem by preparing them for a career in the water industry. Laura Haak, Sara Glade and Anne Crotteau were all awarded water industry scholarships this Spring.

Anne Crotteau (CE, 4th year) was awarded the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Illinois Section Environmental and Water Resources Institute Scholarship. The ASCE Illinois Section awards technical group scholarships to students attending Illinois Institute of Technology, University of Illinois Chicago and Northwestern University who are pursuing environmental engineering or water resources engineering as an area of specialization.

Armour College of Engineering Department of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering Faculty Member Dr. Jamshid Mohammadi was recently honored by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) with Life Membership. This honor is bestowed upon individuals who have served the professional society for 35 years or longer. Dr. Mohammadi will be recognized at the Illinois Section ASCE 98th Annual Dinner on October 30, 2014.
