Civil Engineering

Jamshid Mohammadi, a professor of civil and architectural engineering who has been with Illinois Institute of Technology for more than 40 years, was named as the new dean of the Graduate College and vice provost for Graduate Academic Affairs at Illinois Tech.

Mohammadi, currently the associate dean for the Graduate College, will begin his new role on August 1, 2019.

“Jamshid is a dedicated educator and an accomplished expert in his field,” says Peter Kilpatrick, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs.


Brent Stephens, civil, architectural, and environmental engineering department chair, associate professor of architectural engineering, and director of the architectural and environmental engineering programs, recently published an article with several co-authors in Nature Communications titled “Microbial and Metabolic Succession on Common Building Materials Under High Humidity Conditions.” 


Number of Incoming Women and Men in Equal Proportions

This fall Illinois Tech not only welcomed its largest class of first-year students in 30 years, but its Department of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering (CAEE) in Armour College of Engineering also achieved its own high point: Its 2018 incoming undergraduate class reached gender parity.
