Commencement

“This world holds different meanings and paints different pictures for all of us,” shares Shailee Shah (BME, M.S. EMGMT ’19) during her student speech delivered at Armour College of Engineering’s 2019 Commencement ceremony. Shah adds, “As engineers from Armour, we can all say that we have one word in common: continuous learning and collaboration. OK, four words.”

At each step along a path that has led Claire Fraeyman (CHE, M.A.S. ‘19) toward a career as an engineer, there has been a woman—a high school teacher who cultivated a love of science, a professional engineer who showed a teenage Fraeyman that engineering was the career for her, an Illinois Tech alumna who served as a mentor and provided the final piece of the puzzle as to what she ultimately wanted to do—who helped nudge her forward.

Omar Alhaj Ibrahim (BME, 4th year) has been selected to deliver the student address at the Armour College of Engineering Unit Ceremony on Commencement Day. He was selected for this honor based on his accomplishments and dedication to the Armour College of Engineering Community from a pool of engineering students who applied to be the Illinois Institute of Technology Undergraduate Student Commencement Speaker.

The Armour College of Engineering (ACE) Commencement Ceremony will begin immediately following the IIT Opening Ceremony on Ed Glancy Field (see map) on Saturday, May 16, 2015. Undergraduate and graduate students from the BME, ChBE, CAEE, ECE, and MMAE departments will participate in this ceremony. Can’t make it to the IIT Commencement ceremony tomorrow? No problem, you can stream the ceremony live from the IIT website. Beginning at 9:30 am, live streaming video of the main ceremony will be available on the commencement website during the event. The 2013-2014 Commencement ceremony will take place at 10 am on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the Main Campus.

Armour College of Engineering student, Marisa Haire, will address fellow graduates at the IIT 2013-2014 Commencement ceremony which takes place at 10 am on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the Main Campus.

Haire, who will graduate with an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering, is a Leadership Academy Scholar and has attained a Certificate in Leadership Studies. In addition, she has been an active student on campus holding a number of offices within the Greek community including as vice president of recruitment for the IIT Greek Council and the Kappa Phi Delta sorority.

C. D. Mote, Jr., President of the National Academy of Engineering and Regents Professor on leave from the University of Maryland in College Park, will deliver the commencement address at Illinois Institute of Technology’s 2013-14 ceremony at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the Main Campus.

Mote has led the NAE since July 1, 2013 when he was elected to serve a six-year term. Under his leadership, the NAE will focus on the global role of the organization, the importance of talent in the engineering workforce, and the visibility and understanding of engineering.
