SWE

The Illinois Institute of Technology Student Chapter of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) was selected to receive the Best Collegiate Section Award from the SWE Chicago Regional Section (CRS). The annual award is given to recognize and encourage the achievements of the eight collegiate sections in the region. In addition to Illinois Tech, SWE-CRS received applications from Northwestern University, Northern Illinois University (NIU), and University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).

In celebration of National Engineers Week (Feb. 16-22, 2014) Illinois Institute of Technology’s Rice Campus was transformed into a hive of activity for the young mind. E-Week began in 1951 as a way to call attention to the contributions to society that engineers make. It is also a time for engineers to emphasize the importance of STEM education for young minds.

Armour College BME Graduate Student Marcella Vaicik was featured in The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Magazine this winter in an article “Showcasing the Next Generation of Researchers at WE13.” At WE13, SWE’s annual conference, Marcella earned the opportunity to present her poster entitled “Development of a 3D Model of Adipose Tissue Expansion” during SWE&rsquo

IIT’s Society of Women Engineers receives an award from the Chicago Regional Section for being the “Best Collegiate Section” in 2013. The group has increased membership by 120%, has hosted Engineering sessions with ‘Girls for Science’ and hosted numerous professional development sessions for its members. Go SWE IIT!
